国际关系学院“英语辩论”系列活动开场
The first meeting of “English Debating” ， SIR 2019 Fall
2019年10月8日星期二晚7-9时，国际关系学院外教Zaki和Reed与同学们相约在行政楼B507，探寻英语辩论的乐趣。
两位老师从暖场活动“选立场”开始，导入英语辩论的基本模式和规则，并引导同学们针对话题进行立场分析和观点总结，最后，同学们进行了辩论实操。本期辩论话题为“中式广场舞在纽约应该被禁止吗？”该话题源自2013年一支华人舞蹈队在纽约公园晨练被警察以“制造噪音”为由被捕的新闻。子话题包括“华人舞蹈队与美国警方谁是对的？谁应该适应——移民者还是当地人？英语国家广场舞与中式广场舞有不同吗？“35名国关学子参与活动，16名同学进行了现场辩论，其余同学作为本次辩论的“观察员”，将有机会进行下一轮辩论实操。
此次活动以培养学生批判性思维能力和提高英语语言技能为目的，由国关院视听说教研室与学生志愿者共同组织完成，这是国关院在“以本为本”思想指导下，拓展本科课堂教学内容，切实提高学生素质的一次尝试。
On Tuesday,October 8, 2019, Zaki and Reed from SIR met 35 students in B507 ofAdministration Section to explore the fun of English debate.
Starting with a warm-upgame, the two foreign teachers introduced the basics of English debating andguided students to analyze and summarize regarding the topic. Then the studentswere divided into two debating groups and practiced debating, with Zaki andReed being the “chairperson” respectively. After the debating, advice andsuggestions were offed to the students.
The debating topicthis week is “Resolution: Public square dancing should be banned in New YorkCity”, which was inspired from a 2013 news.
Aiming to developstudents’ critical thinking as well as improve students’ language ability, thisactivity is co-organized by SIR Audio-Listening-Speaking Teaching and ResearchGroup and students volunteers.
